The Professor Does A Grip Competition: World’s Strongest Hands, The Movement Minneapolis Minnesota: Round 2 September

Professor Euro Pinch

The Professor: Euro Pinch Test

Adam T Glass convinced me to compete in the latest grip contest.

I have not done much grip stuff to be honest, so I figured it would be a great baseline and something fun to try. I did the first leg of the World’s Strongest Hands in August 2010 and added some grip training.

My goal was to

1) do better than 4 weeks prior (set PRs) in all events

2) not get beat by as many female competitors (this is a worldwide competition)

Results

Overall I was very happy and got a PR (personal record) in EVERY event.  I am no gonzo grip athlete now, but I am happy with just being better than I was 4 weeks ago.

Adam adds some other fun grip stuff too which is not in the official contest for a total of 6 events (3 in the Worlds Strongest Hands and 2 which are the same for Adam’s gym and one random one Adam picks)

I still got beat by some women, but I got a PR in every event, despite being stupid sick and only adding ONE grip exercise to my training.

Which one?

Hmmmm, you can guess the comments below and I will reveal the answer to the inquiring minds in a few days in the comments.  I will have a write up on it coming next week some time so you can try it out yourself

Summary

I encourage all of you to compete in some way!

The Tactical Strength Challenge (TSC)  is coming up on Sept 25, so that will be a great one.  Max deadlift, pullups and kettlebell snatch.  I am still on the fence if I will be doing it or not as I have been sick for the past 10 days.   ugh!  Finally got on antibiotics to remove the hedgehog from my throat, so training has not been testing so well lately.  On a good day I can hit some neutral military presses and a few rows, but that has been it.

The third round of the Worlds Strongest Hands is set for mid October, so sign up.

The goal is to just be better.  Each time.

Rock on
Mike T Nelson
PS
HUGE thanks to Adam T Glass for doing the contest and David Horne for the idea.
